Thomas Tuchel; from Hero to Villain

I am just a fan trying to talk about Chelsea’s woeful form.
Now first things first I know this coaching thing is not as easy as we see it but honestly I blame Tuchel for this run of bad form.
When Tuchel came initially, he was able to make a Chelsea team that was really efficient, so efficient it won the Champions League, against all odds beating a very good Manchester City team, reached the finals of the FA Cup beating the same Manchester City in the semis. He went further to clinch the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup in under a year. Now these feats were near impossible if not actually impossible at that time cause he was a new coach with new tactics and playing ideas and everyone thought it would take some time for the team to gel but to everyone’s surprise, it worked well pretty fast. Chelsea reached the finals of both FA Cup and Carabao Cup last season, losing by close margins in all competitions to Liverpool, at the end, Chelsea finished in the top four and sealed off the season with a fairly good result and if not for injuries at very critical times and with a congested match schedule through out last season they would have well and truly contended for the Premiere League, not mentioning crashing out painfully out in Champions League quarter-finals after losing to Real Madrid whom they beat in the latter season to reach the finals of the competition.

Now coming into the new 2022/23 season and despite a “not so good” pre season, hopes were really high that Chelsea would be better, with a new owner that was dedicated to supporting the team’s success and a host of really good players targeted to bolster the squad but just a month into the new season and the future is looking bleak for the club. Now just as I said earlier, this coaching job especially at a big club like Chelsea is no easy task but still I think if only Tuchel will change his system of play there’d be a real difference and here are some ways I think will be right steps in the right direction.
Firstly, Chelsea currently play focusing much of the attack on the wings which is no bad tactic at all given the good players we have in the wings just a stint of bad form holding some of the players from their full best but the thing is, the environment and condition at which Tuchel came in at first is not the same as now. The tactics of playing on the wings at first was working very efficiently and everyone saw that. Now with the host of amazing coaches in English Premier League, you would expect that they would come up with a way to cripple the style in which Chelsea play and unfortunately I think they have. When you clip Chelsea’s wings that’s all, minimal or no creativity, no chance created, the attackers are frustrated and the game is just boring really. Now the idea of playing it down the wings and focusing the attack there is not a bad tactic at all, actually if you can use it to its fullest potential, the result will be excellent. We can see such in a team like Liverpool. They have players with a lot of pace and quality on the wings and they use that to their advantage but there’s a difference, and that difference is what will take me to my next point.
Just as I said, there’s a difference to the way Liverpool play and that difference is the connection of the midfield with the attack. When you look at Chelsea’s game currently there is little or no connection between the midfield with the attack. All attacking balls go from the midfield to the wing then to attack, which as I pointed out earlier is not a bad idea but what happens when the wings are clipped, when the opposition team moves plenty bodies to ensure that they block the ball on the wing from reaching the attack, you know what happens? They move the ball back to midfield and they switch to another wing and when the opposition does the same thing as they did, the ball goes back to the midfield again and they go again, over and over, again and again until they somehow find a way which in turn makes the game boring. Now the difference I talked about with Liverpool is that there is a connection between midfield and attack. When you block the wings, they turn to the midfield to “create” the chances, open up the spaces right up in attack. Check Chelsea’s game, a player will make a run in the opposition defence and there would be a clear passing route but no, they take the ball to the wings, no forward direct passes to the attack at all in Chelsea’s game, at all!.
Furthermore, I would suggest a switch in formation from the (3-4-2-1) that they currently use to a balanced (4-3-3). Now I know someone would say this current formation is almost identical to the one Antonio Conte used to win the PL title and yes there is some point in that but check there was a difference. Now Conte had a master personnel in midfield like Fabregas and Conte used him to the fullest. When the wings were overloaded with markers they bring the ball back in midfield, the midfielders would make a string of passes that would eventually break the opposition defensive line and boom, chance created or when a player makes a move in the opposition defence, a forward direct pass would be made. He was using the (3-4-3) formation, almost identical to the one Tuchel is using but what sets them apart is the use of the midfield and connection of the midfield with attack. Honestly, Tuchel in this way is not bringing out the best in the midfielders we have right now and truly we have a host of amazing midfielders in Chelsea but they are not used right. You see Mount and Havertz playing in the wings really isn’t helpful or bearing any fruit up front at all and Tuchel is guilty of playing them out of position. No wonder why Jorghino would finish a game with hundreds of passes and no assist, not even one. Take a look at Manchester City, at the end of the season you would have 3-4 of their midfielders on the assists ranking that is because there is a very very firm connection between the midfielders and strikers, probably the best in the EPL. Chelsea can boast of having some of the best midfielders in the EPL but the results they bring to the table are far, very far from satisfactory.
In conclusion, just as I said, coaching is tough and it’s quite unfortunate he was sacked before he could turn the tides around but then wishing him good luck in his next adventure and also good luck to Chelsea Football Club in their search for his replacement

MANCHESTER UNITED; A BANTER CLUB!!!

Manchester United are a Banter Club!!!
In less than 10 years, manchester united went from being the most dominant club inn England to being a banter club.
lets take a ride back time.
The post Ferguson era began with the appointment of David Moyes. They spent months linked with Thiago Alcantara
with a deal reportedly agreed before Moyes called it off because he didn’t know enough about the player, then they went for cesc Fabrigas which didn’t work and ended up signing Maroune Fellaini for £4m more than his release clause, which expired months before. They finished the season in 7th and Moyes was sacked before the season was over.
To replace him came LOUIS VAN GAAL, seemingly a step in the right direction, accompanied by some big name signing. They finally got Ander Herrera, a year after the farcical episode when three lawyers turned up to the LaLiga offices, claiming to represent United when neither United nor Herrera, nor Athletic club knew who they were. The season started dreadfully, with what was essentially a reserve team losing 4-0 to
Mk Dons in the league cup. They did end up finishing 4th, to be fair. 15/16 season and after an injury plagued loan spell, falcao was gone, and
Di maria also left after struggling to settle at United, and went to PSG to re-established himself as one of the best wingers in the Word. In came Memphis Depay,Matteo Darmian,Morgan Schneiderlin,Anthony Martial,Sergio Romero and most significantly Bastian Schweinsteiger. A resurgent Tottenham and that tittle winning Leicester team saw them lose the top 4 spot. But the FA cup final win over Crystal Palace gave them something to
cheer about.Unfortunately for LVG he was sacked immediately afterwards.
16/17 and enter; Jose Mourinho, Zlanta Ibrahimovic and the return of Paul Pogba, they finished 6th, and also won the league cup,and Europa League and Yes the community shield. Mourinho 2nd season Manchester United drastically improve and achieve their highest league finish since Sir ALEX retired;something Jose described as one of his greatest Achievement in Football because people don’t know what’s going on behind the scene, and also they
made their worst signing of the post Ferguson era,Not Lukaku but Alexis Sanchez. 18/19, Inevitably, third season syndrome kicked in for Jose. As the situation grew increasily toxic, mourinho was sacked and the club paid £18M to sack him. To replaced Jose, United hire a club legend, 1999 hero, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The baby face assassin returned to Old Trafford with a CV comprising 2 Norwegian League Titles, and a relegation with Cardiff City.
They started well in fairness, the players were relieved to be away from Jose Mourinho so Ole had to do was smile in training and they drastically improved. The high point of this campaign came in Paris, when a cobbled together United team managed to overcome a two goal deficit against perennial bottlers PSG, Ole was appointed permanently and their form fell off a cliff.
19/20, and United finally signed a centre back HARRY MAGUIRE and arguebly their best signing post Ferguson Era Bruno Fernandes, 3rd place in the pandemic season, champions league football, United lost 6-1 at home to a Tottenham side managed by Jose Mourinho. But as always they bounced back and even went top of the table for a bit in January and the signing of Edison Cavani on free as well as the injury crisis at Liverpool saw them finish 2nd in the
league, it was however another trophy less season for United as they lost the Europa League final to Villareal still the following season will provide reason to hope that United were BACK.
Long term target Jadon Sancho finally signed to solve their Right Wing problem and Rapheal Varane joined to partner Maguire in defense and of course Ronaldo came home. Whether it was logical to re-sign a 36 year old rather than invest in a young defensive midfielder, thats up for debate, and what followed was depressingly predictable. Some drab performances were bailed out by late Ronaldo goals which divided opinion. And time was eventually up for
Ole.
In came Ralf Ragnick the Godfather of gengenpressing. Finally a tactician to instil some order into this chaos, it didn’t quite went as planned. Reports of players having to Google who he was were understandable, given he had only done two seasons of management in the previous decade. He never really stood a chance of making any progress in such a short period of time…
AND NOW IT IS UP TO ERIC TEN HAG TO BRING THIS BANTER ERA TO AN END !!!
GOODLUCK TO ALL IN THE COMING SEASON…

Man Utd meet with Ajax today as Lisandro Martinez deal enters ‘key stage’

MANCHESTER UNITED are edging closer to completing a deal for Ajax ace Lisandro Martinez.
Manchester United will reportedly meet with Ajax today (Wednesday) to discuss a deal for Lisandro Martinez as negotiations between the two clubs are understood to have reached the ‘key stages’. United saw their most recent proposal rejected by Ajax, however the Eredivisie champions are now believed to be open to selling the Argentine ace who continues to push for a move to the Premier League.
After weeks of seeing bids rebuffed, the Red Devils were finally thought to have matched Ajax’s £43million asking price for the 24-year-old over the weekend. However, the Dutch champions were then believed to have moved the goalposts. It emerged that Ajax wanted even more money for the versatile defender, who himself made known his desire to depart this summer in order to fulfil ambitions of playing in the Premier League.
On Sunday, it was reported that Martinez had indeed issued Ajax with an ultimatum, demanding an agreement with United be reached within the next 48 hours. The Mirror reported the player was even willing to ‘go to war’ with his employers, with many of his current team-mates believing his mind had firmly been made up.
It now appears Martinez has moved one step close to being granted his Premier League wish. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, United and Ajax will meet on Wednesday to discuss a deal, which has now entered ‘key stages’.
